01Who we are
XLRI GeoLens - the iPhone app, the Android app and the web app at geolens.xlri.ac.in - is provided by XLRI – Xavier School of Management and maintained by IT Services, XLRI.
02What the app records
The photos you take and, for each photo, the capture time, GPS coordinates and accuracy, altitude (when available), the address and map for that location, and any caption you add. The app has no accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking.
03How location is used
Location is used only while the camera screen is open, to show where you are and to stamp the location on the photos you take. The app never uses location in the background.
04Where photos are stored
Photos and their details are kept on your device: in the app’s private storage (iPhone, Android) or in your browser’s storage for this website (web app). They are not visible to other apps or websites unless you share or download them. On iPhone, app data may be included in your device backups depending on your settings.
Phone apps: photos are never sent to XLRI.
Web app: photos you save from the web app’s camera, and photos you download from “Geotag existing photos”, are also uploaded, with their geotag details (time, coordinates, accuracy, altitude and address), to XLRI’s photo archive on XLRI-managed servers, with the details in a cloud database used by XLRI. They are kept for XLRI’s documentation and are accessible only to authorised XLRI staff.
05What leaves your device
- To show an address and a map, the photo’s coordinates (never the photo) are sent when you are online to: Apple Maps (iPhone app), Google Maps (Android app, and the web app’s map where enabled) and OpenStreetMap (web app addresses and maps).
- Web app: saved and downloaded geotagged photos are uploaded to XLRI’s photo archive (see “Where photos are stored”). See the Apple, Google and OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policies.
- Phone apps: photos leave the device only when you choose to share or save them.
- Our web server receives standard request information (such as IP address and browser type) when you open the website, as any website does; it is not used to identify you.
06Your choices
- Turn off the map or address on the stamp in Settings → Geotag design.
- Allow or deny Camera and Location at any time in your device or browser settings.
- To have a photo removed from the web app’s archive, contact IT Services (below).
- Delete any photo from its details screen. Uninstalling the app, or clearing this site’s data in your browser, deletes all of its photos and data; copies you shared or saved elsewhere are not affected.
07Children
The app is intended for XLRI staff, faculty and students and is not directed at children.
08Attribution
Web app addresses and maps © OpenStreetMap contributors. Other map imagery © Apple or Google, as shown on each map.
